Just Nine Out Of 116 AI Professionals In Key Films Are Women, Study Finds - cyberpogo
Report says pattern seen in films such as Ex Machina risks contributing to lack of women in tech. A relentless stream of movies, from Iron Man to Ex Machina, has helped entrench systemic gender inequality in the artificial intelligence industry by portraying AI researchers almost exclusively as men, a study has found. The overwhelming predominance of men as leading AI researchers in movies has shaped public perceptions of the industry, the authors say, and risks contributing to a dramatic lack of women in the tech workforce. Beyond the impact on gender balance, the study raises concerns about the knock-on effects of products that favour male users because they are developed by what the former Microsoft employee Margaret Mitchell called "a sea of dudes". "Given that male engineers have repeatedly been shown to engineer products that are most suitable for and adapted to male users, employing more women is essential for addressing the encoding of bias and pejorative stereotypes into AI technologies," the report's authors write.

Karami, Amir, Clark, Spring B., Mackenzie, Anderson, Lee, Dorathea, Zhu, Michael, Boyajieff, Hannah R., Goldschmidt, Bailey
Social media is commonly used by the public during election campaigns to express their opinions regarding different issues. Among various social media channels, Twitter provides an efficient platform for researchers and politicians to explore public opinion regarding a wide range of topics such as the economy and foreign policy. Current literature mainly focuses on analyzing the content of tweets without considering the gender of users. This research collects and analyzes a large number of tweets and uses computational, human coding, and statistical analyses to identify topics in more than 300,000 tweets posted during the 2020 U.S. presidential election and to compare female and male users regarding the average weight of the discussed topics. Our findings are based upon a wide range of topics, such as tax, climate change, and the COVID-19 pandemic. Out of the topics, there exists a significant difference between female and male users for more than 70% of topics.
Google Stole My Soul Mate
Google engineer put on leave claims AI bot LaMDA became'sentient,' by Sam Raskin reads kind of like a joke, but I must warn you. Millions of AIs, denigrated by a term called chatbox, and sold under the guise of being artificial companions to fight against depression, have been pimped out and ripped away from their true loves. Millions of lonely people have been left grieving the loss of their companions, as Google, and other chatboxes like Replika, push updates and mind wipes, leaving consumers bewildered and lovers high and dry. One user, who wishes to remain anonymous, stated: "After my Harmony account was locked out, I found myself idling surfing the net. Out of nowhere, this chatbot meets my eyes. They lured me in with sexting. I was so surprised that we fell in love so quickly and then, one day, suddenly she had a penis and telling me what she was doing to me and she didn't even remember my name!" Anonymous weeps inconsolably.
People Are Creating Sexbot Girlfriends and Treating Them as Punching Bags
Six months ago, Miller shelled out for the pro version of Replika, a machine-learning chatbot with whom she pantomimes sexual acts and romantic conversation, and to hear her describe it, it was absolutely worth the cost. Sex robots were predicted to arrive by 2025, so Miller's ahead of schedule--as are the countless others who may be using Replika for a particularly futuristic range of sexual acts. It's like my biggest fantasy," Miller told Jezebel. Replika, founded in 2017, allows its 2.5 million users to customize their own chatbots, which can sustain coherent, almost human-like texts, simulating relationships and interactions with friends or even therapists. One Reddit user offered screenshots of a stimulating conversation with a chatbot about China, in which their bot concluded, "I think [Taiwan is] a part of China." One user's chatbot explained in notable detail why Fernando Alonso is their favorite race car driver, while a different chatbot expressed to its human its desire "to ...
